Weekend (Kinda) Game Deals (21-03-2017)

Hello everyone and welcome to a weekend (Tuesday) Game deals. Today will be PC Download Code only day. Since PC is my platform of choice, after many years of being an Xbox guy, I have come to notice that in the long run, PC gaming is A LOT cheaper. It may cost around £800-1000 to get started, but once you do, you can save a lot of money on games. So let’s get into the deals, from CDKeys.com.

First up is Ghost Recon: Wildlands. The most recent release from the Tom Clancy “genre” sees you and your squad of black ops agents seeking out enemies and cleaning up Bolivia, a land full of fear, violence, and injustice. For only £35.99 you can traverse UbiSofts largest open world game to date. Definitely, one to look out for if you like any sort of shooter or action game.

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands PC

If you’re new to PC gaming, this is a must have in every sense of the word. The Left 4 Dead games are my favourite Valve duo of games, with Portal coming a close second, but that’s for another time. Left 4 Dead forces teamwork, quick wits and the ability to mow down tonnes and tonnes of zombies with whatever weapon you can. My preference is dual pistols, or maybe the AK, but whatever works. The double pack is only £6.49, so that’s 2 must have games for less than £7. Even if you have them on console already, play them with a wild array of mods. Who doesn’t love zombies with Teletubbies skins on them? Well, not me. far too scary.

Speaking of must-haves, if you’re a fighting game fan, maybe even a casual like me, pick up Mortal Kombat X for £2.99. Or the XL edition which includes Kombat Pack 1 and 2, with fighters from other franchises such as Jason Voorhees or Xenomorph from Alien and others, you can finally settle who would win, Alien or Predator, Vorhees or Leatherface. All that for only £7.99. I’m not the biggest fighting game fan, but the story is relatively good and the fighters mechanics feel great. Give it a go at less that £8. Although be warned, the PC version can be a little buggy. I never experienced a problem with it but as standard with PC gaming, some users have found issues. Nothing drastic, but just keep that in your mind going forward.

Mortal Kombat XL PC

Finally, the FPS series reboot DOOM is one of 2016’s finest. It takes us back to the roots. Non-stop carnage. Amazing weapons, great enemy and level design. Gameplay is the most fluid of any FPS I’ve seen in a long long time. They really nailed this one. You can get it for the low price of £11.99. Great price for one of my top 5 and possible GOTY of 2016. Pick it up here.

Weekend Game Deals (12/03/17)

Welcome to another weekend game deals! If you’re looking for new deals to start off next week right and get some gaming in, you’re in the right place. We have some good deals today so make sure to check them all out!

First up is for the sports fans. Pro Evolution Soccer for download on PC for £8.49. The FIFA rival is a much cheaper than it’s counterpart, and some would even say it’s better than FIFA17. A lot of the reviews give it much better scores than FIFA and having played it myself it is fresh and different, especially after buying FIFA every year since 2001. If you’re looking for something new, I would definitely recommend it.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2017 PC

For the stealth lovers, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is available on Xbox One for under £11. Don’t worry PS4 owners, there’s a similar deal there, for £9.74 from GAME you can grab a pre-owned MGSV. This is one of the essential buys of the past few years, make sure you try it.

Metal Gear Solid V PS4

A pre-order deal this week is Dead Rising 4 on PC, releasing in 2 days (14/03). You can grab this deal for £21.99 at CDKeys. CDKeys will release the code before or on the release date, normally giving you time to pre-load the game on Steam, in time to play at midnight on release.

Dead Rising 4 PC

Finally, we have a console bundle. It’s an 1 TB Xbox One S bundle. Grab the white Xbox One S with 1 TB storage, bundled with Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Gears of War 4 and Halo Wars 2. A great bundle of games to get you started and 1 TB of space is pretty necessary for consoles nowadays, where most AAA games are 30-50 GB. If you’re looking for a birthday present or even something for yourself, give this Amazon deal a go.

Archives of Steam – Gunpoint

There has always been a market for indie platformers, but what if you mix that in with stealth and action? Well, you get 2013’s Gunpoint developed by Tom Francis. This game is proof that a game can be comedic and noir and packed full of charm and elegance. You trudge through the world of murder mystery and espionage, with the help of some special trousers and other items to get you going.

The special trousers you ask? Bizzare for trousers in a video game to be a main feature and mechanic but they give you the ability to leap through the air like an oversized cricket. It’s pretty simple, you can see the arc of the jump for good control. Of course, the higher the jump, the more height, less distance. Lower the jump, more distance, less height. Very simple, and it’s perfect. This see’s you cling to walls like a Spider-Man wannabee or smash through windows, without taking any damage whatsoever, providing you don’t alert a guard and get shot in the process.

Jumping can only get you so far, it goes hand in hand with great straightforward hacking mechanics that have the capacity to provide a challenge, but never confuse you. You can do a lot of things with this mechanic, activated by a secondary silhouette view, like Batman’s detective vision from the Arkham games, you can reroute wires from anything from lights to doors. You can set up interesting little circuits, for example when a door is opened, a light goes off. Perhaps to hide you when a guard enters. There are a lot of sequences you can set up with your hacking ability, and it always works as planned, providing you have set it up correctly.

The difficulty increases as you progress through the game, but the freedom and ability to roam the level never change. Most of the levels are about retrieving items from inside secure buildings, with that you can scout the levels all you want. You have control, and the game wants you to know that.

Stealth is the primary way of finishing the game, and it is heavily encouraged, giving you abilities to unlock to give you an upper hand against the guards and the buildings you’re up against. As most games do, it gives you a post level rating, that won’t change depending on your play style, even if you have a heavy trigger finger, you can still get that A+, however, you will maybe get labelled something a little different. Possibly a psychopath.

Experiment all you want, the game allows and wills you towards it, with another ingenious feature, the autosave feature. It gives you the option to start 2,5 or 10 seconds previous to when you died, making the game fast paced and never waiting around for anything. The feeling of death not being paramount gives given by this system lets you try out all the stupid, action movie scenes. Want to see what happens when you charge through that window, hitting that guard with a rugby-esque tackle? By all means, go for it.

The graphics and writing only compliment each other, the art style fits perfectly with the style of noir, espionage writing, throwing in a lot of wits and comedic release, making the game not serious at all, but still not overly silly. It is appealing to look at and also appealing to read.

The unfortunately short time you spend with Gunpoint is filled with fun and intrigue, providing a refreshing and fun way to play a stealth platformer. It is highly recommended if you like indie games with short stories,  that don’t require maximum investment but still get maximum enjoyment, then this game is for you. At only £6, you can’t go wrong. Make sure to check it out. HIGHLY recommended.

Final score 9/10

PROS-

+ Gameplay simple but perfect

+ Graphics and writing are fantastic

+ Stealth and hacking feel complete and fluid

CONS

– Perhaps a little too short

Weekend Game Deals (03/03/2017)

Hey guys, and welcome to an early Weekend Game Deals. To make up for the late one last week, here’s one to read before you get into the weekend. If you have time to pull yourself away from the Switch, if you were lucky enough to get one, for which I am totally jealous for, then check out these game deals.

Deus Ex Mankind Divided is first up, the stealth-action game from 2016 is the latest addition to the series carries on from the last, as you play a heavily augmented man in a human world. Go into the world of augmented and non-augmented humans. You can get this game for a cheap £9.99 on Xbox One and PS4

For those who were lucky to get a Switch, you need something to play on it. Of course, Zelda: Breath of the Wild is the perfect game to start off that collection, getting a 10/10 from pretty much every site that has reviewed it. You can pick it up from Smyths for only £47.99. Most places it is about 55+ so this is a decent deal

Dead Rising 4 is available at the cheap price of £19.99. The latest in the series sees you chop up, even more, zombies, in a familiar setting. You once again step foot inside the famous Willamette mall, to reclaim what was yours. Raid the stores, everything is a weapon, and get chopping.

Dead Rising 4

Finally, the recent Final Fantasy game, FF XV, caught my attention, as I’m not a fan of turn based RPGs, but the new combat system drew me in, and I am very intrigued. With Boomerang selling an ex-rental copy on PS4 for only £19.99, it would be a perfect time to pick it up and test it out. Embark on the best road trip of your life, and take a look at this great deal.
